Plinths for the People

Plinths, the heavy platforms that hold up statues and monuments, are, by their very definition, not made for all. Instead of holding only a few privileged figures and particular histories, Plinths for the People are large stages activated by community members to ensure that all stories, voices and visions are acknowledged.

This collaborative work takes the form of a historical plinth and turns it on its head by giving undertold histories real space on the cityscape. Community members can speak their truth, perform their triumphs, and create their own kind of monument.

For this event, you are invited to climb six (6) steps to the top of a 48 inch tall plinth and become your own kind of hero. A professional photographer will be present to take your portrait and images will be sent to your registered email after the event.
